A Sensitive Heritage Project

Our Specialist Works

The Oxford Mechanical & Electrical Company were commissioned for the design and installation of the electrical, mechanical and public health systems at this beautiful church. The project consisted of the removal of existing pews and pew platforms; installation of new areas of stone flooring on limecrete slabs; introduction of new heating system and, subject to funding, reordering of the tower to include new WC and cleaner’s closet with associated drainage and storage closets.

This sensitive heritage project involved replacing an outdated air heating system with a modern, efficient LTHW heating installation, carefully designed to respect the building’s character while delivering improved comfort and energy performance.

The Project Included:

  • Strip out and make safe all existing and redundant mechanical building services
  • Supply, install and commission a new LTHW heating system
  • New gas-fired boilers and ancillary plant
  • Modification of existing circuits and controls
  • New radiators and underfloor heating
  • New BMS System.
  • Installation of new sanitaryware to WC and kitchen areas including new plumbing

The Result

We delivered a complete mechanical services upgrade for this heritage building, replacing an outdated air heating system with a modern LPHW installation centered around a Remeha Quinta Ace commercial grade boiler with full ancillary plant and system protection.

The heating distribution comprises low-level radiators, underfloor heating, and electric heating to the tower, controlled via Heatmiser programmable thermostats with BMS integration. This was set up to allow a baseline heating to be used with a fast response heat up when required.

New water services include enhanced filtration and conditioning to the incoming main, plus a dedicated water heater serving the tea preparation area and new accessible WC.

All works were executed in accordance with Building Regulations and listed building requirements, with full commissioning documentation provided.

We worked closely with Kingerlee, the main contractor on this project to deliver on time and to the required specification.

“Thank you for taking the time to come back and see us again. On both occasions you have been incredibly helpful, and you have enabled me to understand the system more clearly and to appreciate the realities of its use as opposed to just the theory of temperatures and settings.
I will also recommend to the PCC, when the time comes, that we continue our partnership with you for the maintenance of the system.”
